The Musical Artists:

Estrola with Shireen Amini

Shireen Amini is a 22-year-old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the outskirts of San Francisco. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and raised in California by her Puerto Rican mother and Iranian father, her diverse background channels through her voice and her music to create a powerful fusion of Rhythm and Blues with a simultaneously Folk, Afro-Latin, and World music sensibility. Her vocal style draws from the influences of Tracy Chapman, Madonna, Sheryl Crow, and Gloria Estefan. Apart from acoustic guitar and keyboards, Shireen’s specialty instrument is the Afro-Peruvian box drum called a cajon. Shireen will open for Estrola with a solo-acoustic set beginning at 1:30pm.

At 2pm Shireen will be joined on stage by fellow musicians Scott Wyatt and Frank Limberg which together comprise the power trio, Estrola. The group features soulful vocals and worldly grooves influenced by each band member’s eclectic musical background to create an earthy, acoustic sound with rockin' metropolitan flare. Call it eclectic r&b/folk-rock. As multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters, Shireen, Scott, and Frank perform a graceful stage dance, interweaving between acoustic and electric guitar, bass, cajón, drum kit, and various percussion. The three bring their spirited, downright silly humor and passionate souls to their songwriting and stage presence for a very colorful display of raw emotions.

Katt and Roots Revolution

The powerful, charismatic, and smooth voice of Katt is definitely one of a kind. Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Katt began singing at a young age. Eventually he started entering competitions in Jamaican dancehalls, which led to performance contracts with several of Jamaica’s most prestigious hotels and resorts. This exposure allowed him to flatter crowds, both locally and globally. In fact, Katt is such a compelling performer and musician that many tourists reportedly returned to Jamaica for the sole purpose of seeing him live.

Katt has an extensive performance resume, including appearances at the Bob Marley Birthday Bash (Trenchtown, Jamaica), the Rebel Salute (Mandeville, Jamaica) and the prestigious Jamaica Federation of Musicians Honor Awards in 2001 (Ocho Rios, Jamaica). Stateside, he has performed at Reggae on the River, the Sierra Nevada World Music Fest, the Mount Shasta World Music Fest, the International Caribbean Fest (Detroit, Michigan), and the Northwest World Reggae Fest (Woodburn, Oregon).

Bill Keale

Bill Keale was born on Oahu and raised near the shores of Kailua Bay. It is here that he began to discover music and writing, in part because it was family tradition. Bill's Uncle, Moe Keale, one of Hawaii's most beloved entertainers, is an Icon in his own right. Bill's cousin was Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole, whose rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow and A Wonderful World" still inspires us all. It was from this Heritage that Bill discovered his own healing gift.

From his early introduction into Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar, Pop, Folk, Healing and Easy Listening profile, Bill Keale's acoustic and somewhat organic musical style becomes evident in it's diversity with influences that include; Cat Stevens, Neil Young, James Taylor, The Beatles, Gordon Lightfoot, Jack Johnson and Hawaiian Slack Key Masters Gabby Pahinui, Keola Beamer, Ledward Kaapana, Raymond Kane and George Kuo. Bill, has achieved both the "Best of Central Oregon" Singer/Songwriter and "Best Local Musician" Awards. He has appeared on the "Oregon Art Beat" program as a featured artist. Bill has recently signed with JVC Victor Entertainment in Japan for promotion and distribution of his latest CD "With Aloha" featuring "A Surfer's Song", inspired by Hawaii's Pipeline Master and Surfing Legend, Gerry Lopez. The song was chosen to be in Gerry's new movie.

Bill's talent is undeniable. His voice unmistakable. And his presence healing. His music is a celebration of the Spirit...pure music...all heart.

One World Taiko

One World Taiko presents a contemporary style of Japanese drumming that incorporates dynamic and fluid movement as well as heart p

ounding percussion. The music is drawn from Japan's ancient tradition of lively and spirited festival drumming and One World Taiko’s own creative rhythms, arrangements and choreography, adding a modern spirit to the ancient tradition of taiko. Their repertoire includes traditional pieces, which were taught to them by the world-renowned groups Kodo and Ondekoza from Japan, and their own original compositions infused with contemporary rhythms from their love of jazz and world music. They perform on traditional Japanese instruments such as odaiko (large drum), chudaiko (medium sized drum), shimedaiko (small, rope-tied drum), shinobue (bamboo flute) and koto (13-stringed zither like instrument) along with Japanese percussion instruments such as atarigane (brass gong), chappa (hand cymbals) and hyotan (gourd shaker).

Jim Stout and Tom Scott Marimba

Jim Stout and Tom Scott perform both traditional and contemporary songs from Zimbabwe on marimba. The traditional songs are based on the ancient music of the mbira, or thumb piano, Zimbabwe’s most important instrument, and adapted for the marimba. These songs date back hundreds of years and are characterized by repetition, uncommon scale modes, and intricate poly-rhythms, all of which were originally intended to induce a trance-like state in listeners during religious ceremonies.

Jim and Tom’s performances are rounded out with contemporary marimba fare from
Zimbabwe. These modern tunes are typically fast and high-energy and are inspired by everything from family life to the Zimbabwean Revolution of the 1970’s. Regardless of what they are playing, the music is always beat-oriented and danceable!
